How the Dragon Got Its Fire

A long, long time ago there was a Dragon that lived in a cave in a volcano. Every day the inhabitants of the volcano would meet in a cave called the Meeting Grounds to talk about the things that they heard and the things that happened to them.

Vincent Panella

Vincent Panella is the author of Cutter’s Island, a novel; Lost Hearts, a collection of stories; The Other Side: Growing Up Italian in America. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2018 for his short story, "The Deluxe."

Who Was Rudyard Kipling?

Rudyard Kipling: Dummerston, Vermont, United States; The Kipling Awards are given each year to the best writing done by 4th to 6th grade students who reside in Windham County, Vermont. Judges for 2018: Tom Bedell, Jerry Carbone, Starr LaTronica, and Tim Weed. Judges for 2017 were: Tom Bedell; Jerry Carbone; Karen Hesse; Dede Cummings; and Tim Weed. The inspiration for these writings are the children's stories composed by British Nobel Prize winning author, Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), who lived in his beloved home, Naulakha, located in Dummerston, Vermont, from 1892-1896.
